OpenAI Bought the Code Review Layer Inside Codex
OpenAI acquired Pierre Computer, maker of the Code Storage platform and the Trees and Diffs libraries already inside Codex. It now owns source control end to end - branch, diff, review, ship - signalling that the real bottleneck in software has moved from writing code to everything around it.

Today's trend: OpenAI announced on November 4, 2026 that it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc., the developer tooling startup behind Code Storage and the open-source Trees and Diffs libraries already embedded in the Codex app. OpenAI says it has already integrated Pierre's tools into Codex, and the acquisition brings code navigation, diffing, review and source control history in-house. The stated ambition is to advance 'the future of source control across the industry' and make Codex the place where humans and coding agents take on ambitious projects - building on Pando, the in-house Git backend OpenAI unveiled on November 2 to scale Git for engineers and agents working in parallel. Pierre's open-source projects stay open-source and Code Storage customers keep service after close, with the deal subject to regulatory approval. The signal: the bottleneck in software is no longer code generation - it is the review, branching and merge layer around it, and the company building the agents just bought it.
